As a hurricane bore down on the city, the Court disregarded wind and weather to hear oral arguments in Kirtsaeng v. Wiley, a major copyright case. At issue is whether the first-sale doctrine, a pillar of U.S. copyright law, applies to goods produced and bought in foreign markets and imported to this country.
