“Rise of ‘Altmetrics’ Revives Questions About How to Measure the Impact of Research”

Since I first wrote about altmetrics–metrics that capture the digital footprint of research and how it's travelling in the scholarly ecosystem–a lot has happened. Several startups are developing ways to deliver altmetrics to researchers, librarians, and publishers, who are also experimenting with how to use metrics that go beyond traditional citations and impact factors.
