“Measuring the ‘Aeneid’ on a Human Scale”

This month, Yale University Press published a new translation of Virgil’s martial epic by the poet and classicist Sarah Ruden. Her edition appears to be the first by a woman. And she’s not alone: There have been four new translations in the past three years, with at least two more in the works. Why the Aeneid, and why now?
